Winesong 2018

Living in a small rural town means that we all have to work together to support our community resources. Fundraising events are seasonal cornerstones out here on the Mendocino Coast, and of all the events we participate in throughout the year Winesong is the most prestigious. Since 1985, Winesong has raised over $7.5 million for the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation and has contributed to our local health care services by funding everything from ultrasound machines, ambulances, and patient beds to uninsured cancer treatments. Every year it takes the whole town, and an army of volunteers, to put this event together and Thanksgiving Coffee is always there to lend a hand to serve everyone a delicious cup of coffee.

And what a beautiful event to attend! Held every September at the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, guests are surrounded by dahlias in full bloom while they enjoy wineries, musicians, and food vendors from all over California, culminating in an exciting live auction at the end.

We were happy to share our beautiful Congo medium roast with guests from near and far who appreciate a great cup of coffee while supporting health care services for our community.

Good Vybz at Reggae on the River

It’s summer in Northern California, and that means festivals are everywhere. One of the classic festivals that takes over Southern Humboldt County is Reggae on the River, which makes its home on the banks of the Eel near Garberville.

Reggae on the River

2018 marks 34 years of this event, pulling in reggae musicians from all over the world to our little corner of the universe. Just like the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, a good group of the Mendocino Coast travels inland for this event, since it’s only a two hour drive from the cityof Fort Bragg.

Thanksgiving Coffee at Reggae on the River

This year, Reggae on the River attendees will have the chance to taste Thanksgiving Coffee cold brew, courtesy of our friends at Good Vybz Devine Design. Good Vybz just opened up a retail location in Willits, and will be traveling to the festival with their handcrafted designs.

In addition to the tie dye and bright colors that Good Vybz brings, they will be serving cold brew from Thanksgiving Coffee during the 80+ degree days that this festival is predicting. As a bonus, these guys also sell shaved ice–and we can’t imagine anything more refreshing than shaved ice and a cold brew on a hot summer day, especially while enjoying music on the river!

Good Vybz Reggae

If you’re planning on attending Reggae on the River this year, stop by the Good Vybz booth and say hello to Lynesha and Jason! Tell them thank you from Thanksgiving Coffee, for serving locally roasted Fairtrade and Organic cold brew. Follow Good Vybz on Facebook for more information about their work.

Coffee at the B Corporation Bay Area Conference

Last week we had the incredible opportunity to connect with a group of people that are making a huge difference in the Bay Area community. This was the B Corp Leadership Development Conference, a gathering of like-minded people that are actively using their businesses as a force for good right here in the Northern California community. As a certified B Corp (with a rating of 108!), we were invited to attend and serve our coffee.

Roaster of the Year Thanksgiving Coffee at the BLD Bay Area Conference!

BLD Conference for B Corporations

The conference was just a one day event, but it was packed with all the important things: great speakers, inspiring discussions, open dialogue and a LOT of coffee. With just under two hundred attendees from B Corps scattered across North and Central California, there was an unlimited amount of inspiration and insight to be gained all around.

We served a variety of excellent single origins and blends: Ethiopia Halo Bariti, Paul’s Blend, Congo Kivu, Songbird Decaf and Mendocino Vienna.

Thanksgiving Coffee Airpots

From keynote presentations to intimate discussions, the BLD Bay Area event did not disappoint in quantity and quality. We kept everyone caffeinated, and everyone kept us inspired. At the end of the day as we parted ways with our new friends and collaborators, we all had nothing but wonderful things to say about the people we’d met and the time we’d spent.

Thank you to the B Lab, and all the amazing volunteers that made this event happen! We were honored to play a part over the day, and we can’t wait until the next time this inspiring group of people gets together again.

Be sure to visit www.blocalbayarea.com to learn more about this awesome group, and support our local Northern California B Corporations!

There will be live music, and you can participate by putting down a bid for the silent auction, paying entry to bouncy houses, and tasting goodies from local chefs. This is one of the most fun events that happens in the city of Fort Bragg every year, and we are looking forward to it once again in 2018. Local organizations and nonprofits are a big part of this event, and you’ll see booths and representatives from the Noyo Marine Science Center, the Mendocino Land Trust, our Mendocino County state parks and many more important parts of the coastal community.

Thanksgiving Coffee will be serving up samples of our Bee Bold Coffee, and the Noyo Food Forest will be selling 12oz bags, as well. All the proceeds benefit the Noyo Food Forest and their important work here in our community. We are very happy to be a part of this awesome event. Taste of Mendocino

This past weekend, Thanksgiving Coffee had the opportunity to sample our coffees at the Taste of Mendocino event in San Francisco! This annual event highlights the many wineries, resorts, restaurants and food producers of beautiful Mendocino County. No Mendocino foodie event is complete without Thanksgiving Coffee, and we were happy to be among fifty of the best food and drink purveyors of Mendocino County.

Rural Health Rocks Concert

Coming up a little later this month is a lighthearted event that raises funds for an important cause here in Mendocino County. As a community that is far removed from major cities and health care organizations, county residents can have a hard time getting the high quality medical care that is often needed.

The Family Medicine Education for Mendocino County (FMEMC) was set up to combat that problem. The goal of this organization is to raise money to bring in more qualified health care professionals to Fort Bragg and all of Mendocino County. This information from the Rural Health Rocks website explains a little more:

Creating a rural family medicine residency program benefits the community in a multitude of ways including opening a pipeline of highly qualified family physicians to act as faculty while training the next generation of primary care physicians for the community. Such a teaching program at Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC) would be a tide that lifts all ships in multiple counties, including meeting the needs for primary care on the coast as well as the community and rural health clinics in Lake and Mendocino counties. It is well known that resident physicians tend to stay in the region (within 90 miles) of communities where they train, especially if job opportunities are available locally.

One of the ways they’re raising money for this initiative is through the Rural Health Rocks concert that happens annually in Mendocino County! This event brings in some great names in music, and this year is no different.

Thanksgiving Coffee at Winesong 2017

Every year, we have the great opportunity to serve Thanksgiving Coffee at the food and wine-tasting event held in the beautiful Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Winesong is an annual charity auction, as well as a wine and food tasting, benefiting the Mendocino Coast District Hospital Foundation. Over three decades, this event has raised almost $8 million for improvements in local healthcare, and we make it a point to be there, doing our part.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see more about what the funds raised from Winesong goes to here in Fort Bragg!

This year, we were especially excited to join in on the festivities, because we were able to serve our spectacular nitro cold brew. We poured through three kegs of our nitro – about fourteen gallons!

Winesong

Thanks to everyone who came out to support our local hospitals, see you at Winesong 2018! Check out their website, and make sure you don’t miss next year’s event: www.winesong.org

More About Winesong:

Since 1984 the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation has engaged in fundraising and community activities to provide support for vital equipment and services at Mendocino Coast District Hospital. Our unique rural locale presents an environment in which the provision of comprehensive hospital services and up-to-date equipment is a tremendous challenge. The Hospital Foundation exists to help the Hospital and our community to meet these challenges.

Solar Eclipse 2017

Cities and communities across the line of totality have been preparing for a once in a lifetime experience: a coast to coast total solar eclipse in the United States. From West Coast to East, the line of totality touches Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. The last time we had a total solar eclipse this viewable from North America was in 1918. It’s been almost a century, and folks have been waiting for this event for a long time. Do you have enough coffee to get you through the two minutes you’ll be in complete darkness? (we suggest a light roast to balance out the event)

(We had a little bit of fun creating a coffee bean eclipse below… enjoy! If it isn’t loading for you, you can view it on YouTube)

Coffee Eclipse

Foggy in Fort Bragg

Here along the Mendocino Coast, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for blue skies. We’re dead in the middle of Fog-ust (that’s coastal living for you!), so we’ll get the darkness, likely without that view of the ring around the sun. Below is a shot of a partial solar eclipse (which is what we’ll have here in Fort Bragg), in foggy Austria back in 2011.

Cristaudo’s in Carbondale

We have one account that is exactly on the line of totality, in Southern Illinois. As one of the best spots for viewing (the longest duration and most perfect eclipse), Cristaudo’s Cafe in Carbondale is preparing for a crazy weekend ahead. If you’re traveling that way to view the eclipse, be sure to stop by and grab a cup of coffee! They’ve stocked up on adorable eclipse-themed cookies, and have a great selection of Thanksgiving Coffee to offer.

Good luck out there!

Fourth of July Mendopendence Parade!

We had so much fun participating in Mendocino County’s Fourth of July parade! Check out a couple shots of our piece of the parade, and a few photos of the day…

A great drone flyover video of the July Fourth parade in Mendocino, from California Poppy Films. What a crowd!

And this video is actually the ENTIRE parade from the guys at Mendocinosportsplus… you’ll see our crew at 41 minutes in!

The Mendocino Beacon also filmed the parade live from the judges stand in front of the Kelley House Museum. Check it out below! The Thanksgiving Coffee crew heads through that video at 49 minutes in.
