Introducing Mendocino Morning Gold
CBD Infused
Whole Bean Coffee

As Thanksgiving Coffee Company launches its CBD coffee, “Mendocino Morning Gold,” I think it is important to tell you why we have chosen to enter the cannabis marketplace with a product of our own. It’s a long story covering 48 years… and this is only a brief introduction.
– by Paul Katzeff

Our Co-Founders Paul and Joan Katzeff 1972

Thanksgiving Coffee was born in 1972 in the coastal village of Mendocino approximately 150 miles North of San Francisco, in the heart of what is known as the “Emerald Triangle.” We are still here in Mendocino County, and just as our coffee has improved in both packaging sophistication and flavor quality, cannabis has improved in quality and understanding of its numerous uses. I grew a few plants for personal use focusing on flavor, selecting seeds that produced the sweetest smoking flowers. But, my own cannabis cultivation had to end. Thanksgiving Coffee expanded, taking on employees, and I was becoming a known personality in Mendocino County; I had to stop growing. Yet, I continued to write an opinion column discussing cannabis illegality under the banner “American Grandstands” for the local alternative weekly newspaper. And, in 1984 I participated in one of the first “legalize cannabis” demonstrations that took place in front of the County Court House in Ukiah. I knew it was going to be a historic event so I brought my Kodak movie camera and 12 minutes of film and made this unscripted movie.

Forty-four years after the founding of Thanksgiving Coffee, Mendocino County became the first in the nation to fully legalize cannabis cultivation. Having grown it, smoked it, advocated for it, written about it and contributed to the political battle for legalization, Thanksgiving Coffee has earned the right to enter the field. Our CBD coffee is made using a full spectrum CBD oil from known sources with all the entourage effects of its terpenes and myriad of cannabinoids, as nature intended. It has the taste and flavor profile expected of our award winning coffee and will be certified Fair Trade and Organic. It will also have the seal of the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, the gold standard for sustainable certification. We want your body’s endocannabinoid system to not just recognize it but to be joyous upon its arrival. This great coffee will turn your morning CBD into a cup of morning gold.

What we mean by exceptional CBD

Our specialty since 1972 has been roasting great coffee and supporting just causes. When it came time to source premium quality CBD oil we decided to partner with George Bianchini, a master grower with certification from Oaksterdam University. George is a pioneer of sustainable growing techniques and has been producing the finest quality CBD from the ground up for over a decade. Founder of the Medicinal Cannabis Research Consortium of Marin and MC Farmaceutical, George is also a Cannabis Growers Cup award winner. Furthermore, to ensure the quality and consistency of the CBD oil we are using, we work with three testing laboratories.

Meet George Bianchini

Meet Ali Stoddard

Ali Stoddard, founder of Green Alley, is the one who introduced Paul and George. As a consultant on plant-based medicine with 25+ years of experience with orthopedics, pain management and wound healing, she is a wealth of information regarding CBD and has been instrumental during the process of developing our CBD coffee.

Paul and Ali recently sat down together to talk about their connection and the new coffee.

Infused by Epic

Infused by Epic uses nanotechnology to breakdown a single droplet of hemp extract into billions of smaller droplets, some of these droplets being 100 x smaller than a red blood cell. It’s a known fact that oil and water don’t mix, and since our bodies are over 70% water, we knew we had to create a better delivery system for cannabinoids like CBD to enter the bloodstream. As a result, true nano products allow the body to absorb more CBD faster.

Infused by Epic is proud to partner with Thanksgiving Coffee to create a superior fresh brewed CBD experience.

Meet Robert Hichens

Passionate about plant medicine and partnering with brands, using CBD and Cannabis to help customers achieve creative infusions with water-soluble nano CBD and Cannabis. Robert Hichens is Product Manager with 8 years diverse management experience, leading cross-functional teams to achieve incredible outcomes. From managing a FIFA World Cup stadium to delivering SaaS products that transform peoples lives through healthy eating, Rob’s roadmap has experienced a great deal. A focus on ideas that solve problems for customers and colleges, through empathy and understanding drives his passion to create solutions that achieve shared objectives and delight users.

Cannabinoids and the Endocannabinoid System

CBD is short for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol (or CBD) is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in the resinous flowers and leaves of the cannabis or marijuana plant, Cannabis sativa. The endocannabinoid system was discovered to exist as a part of our physical structures as vertebrae in 1992. It has been investigated for 28 years and has come to be known as some new kind of Central Regulatory System often likened to an airport control tower. The endocannabinoid system is made up of cannabinoid receptors which are self-made cannabis-like compounds and enzymes that create and inactivate them. The endocannabinoid system is one of the most important physiological systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health.

Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout our bodies. In each tissue, cannabinoids perform different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, maintaining a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.

CBD is important for the endocannabinoid system because CBD modulates endocannabinoid tone and may keep healthy people healthy. Endocannabinoids are cannabis-like cannabinoids our bodies make as needed. Phytocannabinoids are plant based cannabinoids found in cannabis and agricultural hemp. The human body does not recognize whether a CBD compound was sourced from hemp or a high THC strain of Cannabis.

Finally, it should be noted that scientific studies show that CBD and THC work best in combination and potentiate each other’s therapeutic effects. The amount of CBD present is not the only factor influencing the effects of a cannabis-based medicine. The ratio of CBD to THC may be more important. Terpenoid and flavonoid content are also very important.
